God; Who is He and what does He want?

I had a really cool conversation with a young man Tuesday night. We were talking about Jesus and how he agrees with me that there will be a huge awakening in not only our town but in our province and all over North America. He, I'll call him John, also believes that this awakening will start with the younger people ushering it in by their love for Jesus and their persistence in seeking His face. John was at the prophetic conference I attended last week and he really experienced the power of the Holy Spirit and was filled with the love of the Lord.

Our conversation was directed towards what will draw people to Jesus and the awakening. John explained to me how one day while he was working, a man, I'll call him Thomas, from our church came in and questioned John on why he was so full of life and joy. John went on to explain to this man that it was because he loved Jesus so much and was just over joyed with how much Jesus loved him.Thomas scolded John and told him that he shouldn't focus on the love of Jesus but on repentance. Thomas left John with the words I'll be praying for your salvation.

Wow, generations at odds again! This really got me into my thinking mode about Who is God and really what does He want? Repentance? Love? Devotion? What is He looking for? Thomas is correct in saying that we need repentance and John is correct in saying we need to seek His face. I believe we cannot have an awakening unless all the generations work together with the passion our Lord has given each of us.

Luke 5:31-32 NIV
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 NIV
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Corinthians 7:9-10 NIV
yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Psalm 24:5-6 NIV
They will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

2 Chronicles 7:11-13 NIV
“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

John and Thomas are both correct, we need repentance while we are seeking His face and I believe this is what God wants us to do, for God is love. Generations need to work together not knocking each other down. The younger cannot say to the older this is the way it is to be done and the older cannot say to the younger no this is the way. We need to take the gifts and passions that God has given each generation and combine them together in one voice glorifying and honouring God; seeking His face in humility and repentance.

1 John 4:7-10 NIV
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

God is love. He sent His only son for you and for me. Right now He is all cuddly, warm and very welcoming but soon this will not be the case for the Bible tells us that Jesus will be returning and He will be returning as the Warrior He is, after all He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah and He is coming back to claim all that belongs to Him and that is His church, the people who have believed on the work He did on the cross. No one knows the hour or the time of His return but if you follow the news you are sure to know that the time is growing short.

Come into Him now for He came as a lamb and we are living in a time of grace. His love abounds and His gifts are good, seek His face, repent of the old self and walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Come as you are right now for He loves you so much and He has patience and is willing to teach you and pick you up when you fall. We are heading into a great awakening don't you think it would be really cool to be a part of it?

Acts 2:17-18 NIV
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
   and they will prophesy".

  1. What a wonderful point. God is neither a dictator or a pushover. He deserves our respect...but not because He can take our last breath at any second. But because He really does have our best interest at heart.

  2. Hi Queen E,
So true! He cares for us as a parent for a child.
    He really is amazing!

  3. I don't think John could have been so happy without knowing Jesus (and that by realizing he is a sinner needing a savior). I find it a bit odd that Thomas suggested that he wasn't saved.

  4. As Sandra would say, soon it will be "Lion Time!" Very insightful post, Child of God! I think if you polled the Church, and asked that question,"who is God and what does He want", you would get all kinds of different answers, and I think they would all be right. God is like the diamond I love so much...many faceted. We need every part of Him, and I do not believe any human has every part of Him. This is why we need one another. I think the division and strife come when we in our arrogance think that individually, generationally, or even our particular denomination, has the "fullness" of God and/or the knowledge of God, and I've just come to the conclusion that that is not possible. When we all put our facets together, we shine as the diamond of the Body of Christ! :) Instead, we all want to hold on to our little "corner" of God and be satisfied, when we can learn so much from one another.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. Once again I love your post and I love the Scriptures you mentioned. The one about "godly sorrow" is definitely something to meditate on, isn't it?! "Godly sorrow leads to repentance, but worldly sorrow leads to death." Selah!

  5. I can not believe somebody would be upset that another individual was happy just because they knew of Jesus' love! Thank goodness both men had strong faith :)

  6. Hi Ma,
I attend a very conservative church and the better half of the people are very old school and believe a certain way. I do believe John was overenthusiastic with the joy of the Lord and Thomas really wanted to counter that with remorse. Sad, for I believe that both ends of the generations need to mix what God has given them so things are balanced out. The older generation, in our church, have in the past really squashed the enthusiasm of the youth to the point where they just left the church and went else where.

    Hi Kimberly,
Yes, Sandra would say Lion time!! Haha! God is everything and I agree that we all need to take what He has given us and put it together and work as one body. Could you imagine all that would be accomplished if we worked this way? It would be amazing!

    Hi Katy,
I know it is kind of crazy but that is how Satan divides the body of Christ.

God is bringing about a world wide awakening and Satan cannot stop even though he does try. Prayer is the key in stopping these attacks for Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Blessings sisters and thank you for the comments.

  9. Hi Child of God -

I much enjoyed reading this piece.
You expressed critical points that we need to embrace.

You are so right - GOD is love! It is vitally important that we represent Him with love extended to others.

Also, I love this that you expressed, "We need to take the gifts and passions that God has given each generation and combine them together in one voice glorifying and honouring God; seeking His face in humility and repentance."

Our Lord desires that we worship Him in ALL of our ways. He delights when we worship Him. His Holy Bible commands that we be holy as He is holy. He rewards those who diligently seek Him.

    John 4:23 - KJV
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

  10. Hi Sandra,
I love this verse and have been reminded of this often. We are to worship Him in spirit and truth.

I am really pressed by God that this is what He wants, all ages and all denominations of Christianity to gather together under Jesus Christ and worship Him with one voice in the way He created us to worship, some people painting, dancing and singing all glory to Him.

Love is the key that unlocks the flood gates of heaven into the broken hearted.

    Blessings,
