Oxygen; Jesus Christ / Weekend Brew

A blast from the past for Barbie's The Weekend Brew.

Acts 16:6-7 NIV

Beautiful sky last night on the farm
Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

This passage I have stumbled over many times, how did the Holy Spirit block their way? How did they know that Jesus would not allow them to go this way? How did they know this was of God and not of Satan? Well, John 15:4 NIV tells us...
Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

So often our decisions, our choices are made by our own will, me, self; self centered. This is a normal pattern of thinking after all since childhood this has been our main concern, self. If we change our way of thinking by putting God first and asking Him to direct and guide us then He will for He promised us He would. Remain in me as I also remain in you.We need to make the choice of walking in the Spirit. When we choose to hand everything over to Jesus, then we can trust that what we hear, or the options opened up to us are from Him and not from Satan.

It is hard thinking in the spiritual realm for we live in the earthly realm. Our minds are earthly, our thinking is earthly, how then, do we think and live in the Spirit. First off, after committing our lives to Christ, we need to emerge ourselves in the Word and then live out what we read. Putting God first and loving our neighbour as ourselves. Do good works and trust that when we ask God to guide us that He is guiding us. When a door closes believe He closed this door and trust when the time is right He will either open that door or open a new door.

This must be our passion, Jesus Christ, He needs to be our oxygen, every breath we take we should be breathing Him in, then I believe we will be able to discern His voice and the direction He is leading us. Jesus needs to be our everything and when He is we will know when He is guiding us.

  1. Amen! I've just been thinking of this very thing, in terms of rekindling my intimacy with the Lord, for it's through our intimate relationship with Him that our life in Him flows. If His Life is flowing in and through us, then everything we do will reflect that. I am needing this in my life right now! :) Thanks for sharing!

  2. Hi Kimberly,

I don't want God to go dry in my life. I want Him to be my everything. I crave Him. 1 1/2 mths ago I was filled with the Joy of the Lord and I don't want to lose that, ever!

Funny, after I wrote this post, the Spirit led me to think of you and this opportunity in front of you. I didn't intend it this way but I think this post is for you from God!

    Hugs,

  3. Hi Child of God,
You said " our choices are made by our own will, me, self; self centered." I was thinking about the same thing except with prayer right before I came to your blog. God is awesome, isn't He?

    Great post and God bless,
    Ken

  7. A deep personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ will transform every area of our lives.

The decision I have made is that ALL OF MY DAYS IN EVERY SEASON I will never stop loving and living for Jesus.

  8. I am very guilty of the "me thinking" but I saw something on a blog a while back that has helped some. It said "what if you only had the things today that you thanked God for yesterday." Seeing that has helped me remember to thank God daily and leave everything up to him-even when I think that my plan will be better, I know that in the end, his plan will be perfect :)

  9. Hi Kerrie,
I agree with you, never stop loving or living for Jesus!

    Hi Ma,
It was a beautiful sky and the picture just don't do it justice! Over the last few weeks we have been having the most amazing clouds, never seen anything like this here where I live.

    Hi Katy,
All will change soon, after George is born. Once you become a parent the 'me' attitude shifts into caring for someone else. It is a wonderful circle God made, being a parent really helps you to mature and see things in a totally different light.

Blessings and thanks for stopping by!

  11. God has put out an amazing invitation, through relationship we can discover the depths of His heart. The infinite God wants to share with us things that angels will never know. This will happen throughout eternity. What a privilege! Let's keep drawing near.

  13. Hi Child of GOD -

I so love this post. It strongly stirred my spirit juices.

In particular, I love this that you expressed, "...we need to emerge ourselves in the Word and then live out what we read. Putting God first and loving our neighbour as ourselves. Do good works and trust that when we ask God to guide us that He is guiding us. When a door closes believe He closed this door and trust when the time is right He will either open that door or open a new door."

And you last paragraph so moved me, as well.

Thank you, dear lady of GOD, for sharing this rich potent piece. Peace like a river...

Yes, indeed, we must abide in Him, the true VINE, and He will indeed abide in us.

  15. Thanks for sharing. I'm always asking, "me, God, or the enemy?" I do want to become so keen that I will always know when it's God ... so there will be no question when it comes to following Him.

  17. Where I am today...longing for intimacy and fighting my own laziness. I have known intimacy and had parrallel thoughts with the Lord...but somehow been made a slave to circumstances and exhaustion. Still, I press on....yes!

  18. Oh how I long to breathe Him in and then hold my breath, not let it out. I want Him to stay with me always. Abiding, that's where I need to be. Thank you!
