Hypocrite! Who Me?

Google Image
Ephesians 2:1-3 NIV

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.
A hypocrite is a person who pretends to be what they are not. If Jesus Christ is our Saviour and we have accepted Him into our lives then we are children of God and we have a new identity. The old self is dead and we have a new pure self who is one with Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Father by the sacrifice of the spilled blood of Jesus on the cross.
Romans 6:5-7 NIV
For if we have been united with him in a death like his,
we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the
body ruled by sin might be done away with,
that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because
anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

So when Sunday comes and we attend church we are acting like who we are supposed to be, Christians. We are truthfully being who we were made to be and are alive in Christ. But, when the week rolls around and we are not 'acting' like Christians because of where we are then we are being hypocrites. The word hypocrite is from a Greek word that means "play-actor". We are pretending to be something we are not. Our true identity is in Christ Jesus and when we forget who we are and we start living the way we were before we were saved then we become hypocrites.

Let's live a life that proves we are not hypocrites, don't let the old ways make us act like someone we are not.

Ephesians 2:4-10 NIV

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

  5. Hi Ma,
We need to always remember that we are children of the High King. Sometimes, when Satan attacks, that can be something we forget.

    Hi Sandra,
If we don't walk in the Spirit we can easily forget who we are. Sunday we remember but during the week we tend to get swamped in the world and forget our true identity. We are aliens to this world, our Kingdom has different rules and traditions. If we keep our eyes on Him then we don't forget who we are.

    Blessings,

  7. Hi Vilisi,
I am glad I encourage you for you do the same for me. I guess that is what it means when Paul says in Romans 1:12
that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith
