Devastation in Syria; End Time Prophecy?

End time prophecy of Damascus, it is really coming true in our life time?

Following the news in the middle east can cause turmoil in our emotions. I cannot help but wonder if Jesus will come and rapture His church in my life time. Thinking on this wonderful event fills me with a mixture of emotions. Joy, anxiety, concern, gloom are only a few of the feelings I have when I think about being swept up into heaven with my King. The thoughts of joy quickly turn to gloom when at the same time I think about the many people suffering physically and those who do not know Jesus as Savior or have turned away from Him. Can this event really happen now or it is still many, many years away? Scripture tells us in Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49 that Damascus will be fully destroyed to the point of, Isaiah 17:1, becoming a heap of ruins

Here is a short 5 minute discussion from American Live on Syria and Biblical prophecy with Joel Rosenberg.

Do we know for certain that this is ushering in the Rapture and the direct coming of our Messiah?
No. Scripture tells us...
Matthew 24:36 ESV
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only."
But, is it possible that what is happening in Syria is the beginning of the complete destruction of this city?
Yes it is possible.
So what should we be doing? We need to be praying for those who are suffering in such a horrific way and praying for the salvation of those who are lost.
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Blessings,
