Bringing In The Harvest

 Proverbs 17:22 NIV
A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Today is Thursday and that means The Sunshine Project!! Summer is not putting the link up, it is her friend Kimberly from Kimberly's Korner who is helping her out by hosting it. If you have some sunshine that you want to share, why don't you link up with Kimberly and hopefully Summer will read it and be filled with some joy.

Garden 2012

As most of you know this spring my kids and I planted a garden. Now, the end of August, the garden is really producing. We have peas, beans, cucumbers, onions, swish chard, carrots, zucchini and tomatoes (green still) coming out of our ears!! Corn will be ready in a couple of weeks and the birds will be feasting on the sunflowers. The mint, catnip, chives, sage and oregano seem to be doing fine but I may just have to move them next year as I think the soil is not the best where they are.

Corn

Next year, I will have to reconsider what we plant and just how much we plant as I have zucchini coming out of my ears! I mean there is only so much of this vegetable that one can eat even if processed, froze and saved to put into banana bread and fritters. I do believe I will be giving it away to some of the people at my church. ;P

Stuffed Zucchini

Herbs

Tomatoes! There are SO many green tomatoes and not a red one yet. I sure do hope they start changing soon because here in the north our growing season is short and I am expecting some frost during the night time very soon.

Tomatoes

Stew with fresh garden veggies!

I'm linking up with Kimberly, Kimberly's Korner for Summer's The Sunshine Project.

Psalm 65:9-13 NIV
You care for the land and water it;
    you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
to provide the people with grain,
for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows
    and level its ridges;
you soften it with showers
    and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty,
and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasslands of the desert overflow;
the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks
    and the valleys are mantled with grain;
they shout for joy and sing.

God Bless!

    1. Hi Ma,
How sad! I guess you had a pretty dry year. Glad the herbs survived. :)

      The zucchini is stuffed with:
lean ground beef, onions, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and 2 cups of cooked quinoa. It is then stuffed into the zucchini and a tunnel hallowed out and grated cheese put in. Baked covered at 350 for 1 hr then 400 for a half hour removing the cover for the last 5 minutes. I made a cheese sauce and poured on top to serve. It was totally delish!!

      Blessings,

  3. Dear Child of God,

That's a beautiful garden you have, and that zucchini that's stuffed including the stew looks delicious!!! Is there some meat in that stew? I've gone back to eating meat now. Also I really like eating fresh corn, and as for those tomatoes, I actually like eating tomatoes that are mostly green in color.

God's blessings to you my Sister in Christ,
    Lon

    1. Hi Lon,
      Thank you!
Yes there is beef in the stew.
Good to hear you are back to eating meat again. I was a vegetarian for a few years, but when I became pregnant with my daughter, I started eating meat. Now, I could never imagine not eating meat, I love it.

I have never tried eating green tomatoes, I might just give them a try.

      Blessings bro,

    1. Hi Karen,
The sunflowers really do brighten up the garden. Next year I will plant more of them in different areas to bring in more yellow to our rather very green home.

      Thank you for stopping by,

    1. Hi Summer,
Haha!! Lol, that's funny. ;P My garden grows just fine!

Good for Kelcee loving corn! My kids love to eat it right on the cob while the corn is still on the plant! My son says, 'now that's fresh corn!'

Yes the cat nip is for the cats!! I plan to dry it out and give it to them. I also will save some for tea.

As for the zucchini, I saw a recipe to make like potato pancakes with them. I will give this one a try as it really did look amazing.

      Love you lots hon.

    1. Hi Janice,
Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. :)

My son said to me that he gets great satisfaction is watching the corn grow. He says because it grows so big and tall it makes all the hard work put into it worth it. Kind of like our Christian walk, when we sow seeds of Truth, there is great satisfaction in watching those seeds grow and mature into ripe fruit.

      Blessings,

  9. What a wonderful post! I am so envious of your garden! Here in the south it was so hot and humid that my little veggie garden shriveled up and died before producing squash, pumpkins, just the beautiful blooms and then nothing. I only had about 9 small tomatoes and my banana peppers are having the tiniest beginnings of peppers but I don't believe they will have time to mature now. Your garden is beautiful! Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Christian blog and I appreciate your prayers so much! Hugs, Kerrie

    1. Hi Kerrie,
That is so sad!! At least you did get to enjoy the beautiful blooms. Wondering if you could transplant your peppers and bring them indoors. Maybe that would work.

Blessings hon, thanks for stopping by.

  10. Hi Child of God -

Thank you for these delicious servings from our Lord's good soil!

  11. Dear Child of God, Another great post from you! Reading your blogs always makes a wonderful difference to my day :) I'm grateful for all that you share here.

Seeing the photos of your garden and how much its grown is an absolute delight. I want to run through your corn crop :) and those tomatoes put mine to shame, and your zucchini... Yumo! I could eat zucchini till it came out my ears. One of my favourite vegetables.

Sunflowers really are cheerful. Hubby use to buy me a small chocolate treat each week, well that was a while back. But I asked him not to, so instead he buys me a packet of sunflower seeds. I'm the only one in my family that eats them. They don't know what they're missing out on. Oh well, all the more for me. Hehe.

Thanks dear one for the Scriptures you share too, as I always read them and look them up. I found the summary for Proverbs 17:22 in my Bible quite interesting. The summary reads, "To be cheerful is to be ready to greet others with a welcome, a word of encouragement, an enthusiasm for the task at hand, and a positive outlook on the future. Such people are as welcome as pain-relieving medicine."

It was the last sentence that made me stop and think. I hadn't thought of it that way before.

Hmmm, Well I think I might go and make some stew for dinner. Take care. Much love to y♥u! Smuggles (Smiles and Hugs), Kerrie

God bless you and keep you...

    1. Hi Kerrie,
I'm glad you enjoyed this post and this blog! Thank you for letting me know. :)

Yes this garden sure has grown and has been a real delight to my family and I. We have had some really good times in the garden weeding and talking. Planting and tending this garden has given me lots of insights into God's word and has allowed me to related to the seeding, weeding and watering concept in a whole new way. It is a lot of work!

I agree with you that sunflowers are very cheerful. It is like a mini face greeting me each day as I head out to the garden. I find myself saying good morning to them. Sunflower seeds are very nummy and so good for you. Enjoy!!

I too love reading the summaries at the bottom of my bible and the summary you put down makes so much sense, thanks for sharing.

      Smuggles!!! I LOVE it!

      Smuggles to you to hon,

  12. Hi child of God,
I have always loved to see things growing in a garden, isn't it wonderful to think of the variety we have been given. I think you must be a very good cook, judging by the meals you display. When is the restaurant opening?

It is very satisfying to watch the garden grow. It has a very calming effect on me, one that I didn't really expect to have.

Hmmm, good cook? Let's just say it is hit and miss. ;P These past two experiments were a hit!!

  13. You can't reap unless you sow. I'd like to hear what "the seeding, weeding and watering concept" is that you speak of. God gives us so many wonderful examples of the natural translating into the spiritual for our lives. What an amazing garden? Thank you for touching our lives with beauty and joy.
