Treasure Hunt

Google Image
Who doesn't like a treasure hunt? I love them. When the kids were little my husband and I would hide candies and gum in the snow at the top of the mountain. In the morning, after the kids had breakfast, we would put on the winter clothes and hike up the mountain in hopes of finding the goodies hidden in the snow. Sometimes we would make a map and they would have to figure it out or we would give them clues and riddles. What fun! Both kids would be talking the whole way up wondering what was hidden this time and all the possible places the treats could be! After the exhausting walk up we would dig and search in the snow and of course the dogs would get into the fun. Snow flying everywhere and more than once a frustrated kid getting mad at the overly anxious digging dogs. They would find their treat and skip/fall/roll down the mountain all the while talking about how much fun they had and wondering what would they would find tomorrow after making the hike up.

Did you know that our Daddy in heaven likes treasure hunts as well? If we ask Him He will give us a map, clues, riddles and then He sends us on our hunt for the treasure of His heart; people. Here is a really cool testimony from Bethel Church where I learned, from our ex-pastor, about these hunts. The testimony tells us how two Muslims and an atheist come to Christ! Praise God!

Since last night I have really felt God leading me into a treasure hunt. This is where you get together with a small group of people and have intercessory prayer asking God who it is that He wants to touch. Then you spend a bit of time, not much, writing down the first things that come into your mind. Usually you have a list with headings for: Location, Names, Appearance, Prayer Needs, The Unusual. Then you write down the very first 5-10 words that come into your mind under the separate headings. Your team then heads out to the place or places that were given and you look for people that follow the descriptions that you have on the paper. You approach the person or persons and tell them what you are doing and ask if they are interested in finding out if they are the person God has pointed you to. If they agree then you continue with prophetic prayer and God leads you into praying for these people and healing them from ailments. It really is an awesome experience to see God touch a total stranger through your obedience to a calling God places on you.

Last year my son and daughter headed out with a team and found a lady who had drifted away from Jesus when her husband had passed away exactly one year ago to the date of this event. She was mourning and on the verge of ending her life when the team found her. She cried, knowing God loved her and knew of her pain and it touched her deeply knowing He sent this team out to reach her in this time of need. They ministered to her and she gave herself to God again and promised to go back to church and seek counseling. What a amazing experience my son and daughter had knowing that God told their team about her, watching His hand in action and feeling Him in their lives.

I love doing this but I am not a social person and really have trouble speaking to people I know and now I feel the need to approach strangers. :) Friends, God is really stretching me! Usually I am in the back ground covering in prayer the people on the front lines. I feel God leading me here to the front line, so I am going to step out of my comfort zone and try to set up a treasure hunt sometime soon. Maybe you might be interested in doing something like this, if you do please let me know how it turns out.

Job 16:19-21 NIV
  Even now my witness is in heaven;
   my advocate is on high.
 My intercessor is my friend

   as my eyes pour out tears to God;
on behalf of a man he pleads with God
   as one pleads for a friend.
Blessings,

  3. Wow! I've never heard of anything like that before, and I have been around all kinds of prophetic stuff before! That is amazing! I could definitely see you doing something like that. I know God will give you the strength, the words, and the confidence to step out in Him in faith and obedience. How exciting! I believe He would really use you mightily. You can do ALL things through Christ,who will strengthen you! Keep us posted on how this goes!

  4. Hi Kimberly,
    I trust that God would give me the words and I pray He will fill me with courage to make the step to open my mouth. :) We have done ths before but usually I am beside our spokes person covering them in prayer. My kids and I were part of a prophetic conference called Hearing God by John Paul Jackson. It taught us how to listen to God's voice and prophesy over people. My son and daughter are very prophetic and it was so cool watching them grow in the Lord.

    I will post after the treasure hunt but I am not sure when we will be able to go.

    Blessings,

  5. This is very good and similar to what my daughter and I did last week.. Listening to God is always the answer. If you are on the train or bus, ask if you should talk to someone? I do it everywhere..and its surprising how people are starved for love and acknowledgement. Lets open our hearts to give. OOOXXXX

  8. Hi JBR,
    This is fun to do, especially when you see people's face light up and they say, wow, God sent you to me to tell me this!

  9. Oh wow. I'm afraid I'd be on the back lines with you and I am very sociable. Maybe I can get some people at our church to help in this. I'm definitely going to toss the idea out there. If anything happens, I'll let you know :)

  11. Hi R&K,
    Cool, I hope your church goes for the idea. If they do and you want more info, email me.

    Hi Ron,
    It was a sweet experience for them. They were sitting the car trying to find the person God pointed out to them and they couldn't see her so they prayed to God and asked Him who Lord? Where is she? The Lord spoke to my son and he almost jumped out of the car! He told our pastor, who was with him there she is!

    Blessings,

  13. Hi Queen E
    Welcome!
    It sure is fun to do and really gets you witnessing to people. Although I must say we have had a few, ah not so nice responses but most often people are fine with it and really welcome prayer.
    I hope you give it a try.

    God Bless,
