What struck me is that He said to 'surf''. Surf has a few meanings: the swell of the sea that breaks on the shore or on shoals, foamy water caused by the breaking of the sea upon a shore, especially a shallow or sloping shore, to float on the crest of a wave toward shore, to ride a surf board, to surf the internet. Definitions taken from Dictionary.com Surf All of these definitions mean to stay afloat and to travel in some way. Surfboard implies gliding across the water or, in some instances, sand or snow, or now, which is very common, glide the waves of the internet and search on the computer. All of these imply staying afloat on whatever surface is under us. If we put our trust in Jesus Christ and His Word in Scripture, we WILL stay afloat no matter how ominous our situation maybe.Mark 4:35-41 NIV
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
If God said it then we are to believe it!! Amen?
Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

ReplyDeleteGod bless
Hi Brenda,
ReplyDeleteIt is a life time of learning to just trust and believe in God's Word. some days are good and other days we tend to falter but He is always true and always strong for us.
Blessings sister, thanks for sharing.

When I looked at that picture, of course the first thing I noticed was the huge wave...But then my eye focused on the surfers...They were already down, and seemed almost to be resting.
ReplyDeleteI think when we try to stand and surf upon our own two feet, we can get hit pretty hard and knocked from our boards...But if we lay down (submit) to the Lord, and rest our weight upon Him, then when that wave hits, we stand a better chance of staying with our board (our source of staying afloat= Jesus).
It is better to be in that position to begin with (before the wave hits) than to be knocked over from our high point..
Pride goes before a fall!
Of course there is a time when God gives us the momentum to stand upon him and ride the waves...But we must be willing to submit to Him and not become arrogant with our own abilities and gifts...Humility is key. We must also maintain balance...remembering that without Him we will fail just like the surfer will surely sink without the board. Our (close) relationship to Father is essential whether the waves are big or small...detachment from Him at anytime means that when sudden peril arises we are without our source to survive it.

Hi Lisa,
DeleteGreat observation! In order to stay above the water and not sink, we need to submit our self and trust in Him to keep us on top of that wave. I love the picture of resting our weight on our board. Submission in the prostrate form comes to my mind when the storm is the fiercest. When we are fully submitted to Him and know how to give total control over to Him, then we can stand and ride on top of our board in unity as one; sanctification.
I agree, humility is key. We need to keep Jesus front and center, He is our balance, our security. Without Him we are lost.
Thanks for sharing what you saw, I really appreciate your input.
Blessings hon,
