For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Could unforgiveness be standing in the way of healing?
Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV
Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
How does your body heal from a deep wound? If it is to heal properly it needs to heal from the inside out, otherwise the outside of the wound will close up and the inside will fester and infection will form causing the wound to open up again. To properly heal a wound you need to completely clean it out and allow it to heal from the inside out allowing the wound to knit together and close properly.
The physical mirrors the spiritual.
If we are sick and come to God for healing and we are not healed then maybe one of the reasons could be that we are harbouring sin or unforgiveness in our heart. We need to clean up from the inside in order for our physical body to be healed.
Now this isn't the case for all people, for God sometimes says, 2 Corinthians 12:9 ...“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ”...
If you are seeking physical healing and you haven't been healed yet, then examine yourself to see if you need to forgive someone or maybe you are holding on to sin that needs to be repented.
1 Corinthians 11:27-31 NIV
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment.
This is by no means extensive but only part of the healing process.

I think you are right on...unforgivness often times stands in the way of healing...yes...and becomes back pain, head aches..etc,,,
ReplyDeletethankfully..mercy is Gods greatest attribute.
Hi Annmarie,
DeleteMy hubby is a physician and many, many times healing comes when buried sin or unforgiveness is rooted up. He has spent time in his office praying with his patience and seeing physical symptoms disappear after the patient has confessed hidden sin.
Thank God for His mercy!
Blessings,

I agree this can be a reason for a delay in the healing process...I trust that in every situation God has plans that we may not understand. As someone who has been in pain for a long time, I have thought a lot about this. I have asked God to search my heart...just trusting His plan as I am more dependent on Him than ever. Trusting Him for Lucy and Phoebe too.
ReplyDeleteHi BB,
DeleteWhen I went for healing prayer I had a sheet of prayers that was given to me. On the sheet I was instructed to repent hidden sin, ask forgiveness where needed and to forgive where needed. As I was doing this the Holy Spirit reminded me of sins I didn't even think were sins. After praying and repenting I had a very light feeling come over me, like chains breaking. It was awesome. Healing followed slowly within a year and I am now in remission.
Blessings hon,

Yes forgiveness of others..confessing your own sins, and healing goes hand in hand..We do heal from the inside out.. much love sent today. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Crystal Mary,
DeleteYou sure would have seen this a lot in your career as being a Christian nurse. I only wish I had more stories to tell.

Yes that is true. We live by every word that comes from the mouth of God which are always words spoken in love to bring spiritual healing, which also in turn have the ability to bring physical healing.
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda,
DeleteWhen we live by the word of God healing comes to all areas of our lives. :)
Blessings sister,

Hi child of God,
ReplyDeletehave tried to get into your original post to see your testimony of how you were called to intercede but have failed, I think I must have been doing something wrong, I am a bit green as far as blogs are concerned.
Hi Brenda,
DeleteThe first post is in November 2012 called, 'Stepping out in obedience' You can click on to it from my blog page.

Dear Child of God,
ReplyDeleteI have read this post a few times. I believe that you're right on the mark with this. I believe it to be true with being sick, and other personal petitions to God. Which is why we need to periodically examine ourselves!
GOD BLESS!

Hi Kerrie,
DeleteI believe that the commandments God gives us is for our benefit not just rules to follow. When we forgive we release hatred, anger and resentment which all stresses us out. When our stress level is lowered our body is able to heal itself.
