James 4:8 NIV
Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded

God doesn't walk away from us, it is us who walk away from God.
If we come close to God by reading His word, doing His will, rebuking our sins asking for forgiveness and set our hearts on God, He will come close to us.
The first part of this verse I love! It is so comforting knowing God will come close to us if we come close to Him. The second part stings! Not the sinners or purify part but the double minded. I don't want to be this way yet I know when I exalt something higher than God I am being double minded. Pride, anger, even righteous anger if I carry on in it too long then that becomes my God. Forgive me Father for serving the flesh instead of You.

Forgiveness is such a struggle. Drawing near to a God who continually forgives can be just mind blowing! God forgives. Why can't I do the same? Forgive myself, my enemy, my friend. It will come only when I draw near to the One who forgives me!
ReplyDeleteI love this reminder! Thank you for visiting me!

Yes Lord purify my heart. Cleanse me. Thank you for sharing CoG. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those "ohhhh" and "ouch" verses in the Bible. But I want Him to come near to me all the time, which means I need to keep my heart clean before Him so that He can draw near. God cannot dwell in a heart where sin resides.
ReplyDeleteHi Lindy,
ReplyDeleteI love how you said, "It will come only when I draw near to the One who forgives me!" This is so true! We need to come to God just as we are and with our eyes on Him, He will purify us, make us clean so we can turn and forgive others.
Hi Beth,
You are welcome and thanks for visiting me as well. :)
Hi JBR hon,
I stand in agreement with you purify my heart Lord and cleanse me.
Hi Barbie,
The more we know Him the more He expects of us which is beautiful yet scary at the very same time. The newness of Him never ever wears off.
Thanks for stopping by!

Can't we all say like Paul did."The thing that I hate is the thing that I do." Yes we all walk away sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHi Crystal Mary,
ReplyDeleteI believe we can all say this, "The thing that I hate is the thing that I do." It aches my heart knowing I do things that displease my Lord, but I am thankful to say that it is the sin in me and not me that does these detestable things.
Thank you Father for forgiveness.
Blessings sister,

He gave me... "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me." 2 Cor 12:9
