1 Kings 18:42 NIV
...but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees.
Exodus 3:5-6 NIV
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
Most often my prayer times are very casual but every now and then I feel the need to lay prostrate in front of my Holy King or bend the knee to Him in prayer and when approaching Him our hearts should be full of thanksgiving even if things are going really bad in our lives.
Philippians 4:4-6 NIV
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
We are told to come to God in all things through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 3:12 NIV
In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
We are also told to pour out our heart to God and cast our cares on Him.
Psalm 55:22 NIV
Cast your cares on the LORD
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
Our God is a very approachable God but let us remember that He is a Holy God and even Elijah, a very powerful man of God, approached God with his face between his knees.
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
the righteous be shaken.
Our God is a very approachable God but let us remember that He is a Holy God and even Elijah, a very powerful man of God, approached God with his face between his knees.

Dear Child of God,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. It helps to remember God is the King of Kings, and we need to have a holy fear of Him. He is Daddy Abba God, but He is the Sovereign One as well. You wrote this post so well, with all the appropriate verses.
Blessings on you today dear one!
Love
Lidj

Hello Friend,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reminder of this truth....I often feel we easily lose grasp of His holiness due to all the distractions in our society - including the comforts of modern life. To have nothing both in the physical and spiritual sense really makes one see our state of depravity and utter dependence upon the Creator - a Holy, Great God!! PS I redesigned my blog - but my old friends were not converted over...would you mind checking it out....Thank you, God Bless!!
I totally agree...The love and admiration I feel for our heavenly Father is indescribably and the openness in which He possesses to be approachable . When I think of His Wisdom and Grace and Love He has for us(me), I am in awe. His hands are firm and loving, soft and warm...WOW!! I am WOW'd by His works and His Word EVERYDAY!! I see Him work in other peoples lives and seeing Him work in mine is incredible. And then knowing and trusting He IS with us everyday through good and bad. My goodness, there are no words to describe His true awesomeness!! Daddy has a plan and Daddy does not make mistakes.
ReplyDeletePsalm 138:8 NLT
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
Amen, LOVE your post, awesome insight...thank you, my wise friend!
God Bless :)
Such truth! Ah, I need to come to my Father prostrate more often... I can get so tied up in the bustle that many of my prayers are informal. That is wrong of me. Beautiful reminder. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Alice,
ReplyDeleteI agree that the distractions of this world get in the way of God's Holiness. I have heard it said that the reason we don't see many miracles here in North America is because of all the material stuff we have. We depend and rely on self not God.
I have checked out your new blog...beautiful!! I love roses! :) I have joined.
Hi IwP,
I too am WOW'd by His works and word. Sometimes I just get floored by Him and I can only sit back and laugh. Thanks for sharing Psalm 138:8, love it!
Oh, I am not wise,:s I am only being obedient to what I see and hear from Him. That is quite the accomplishment for this rebellious daughter of His. :)
Hi Emily,
Me too. I am trying to lead a life of 24/7 prayer so I forget that He is Holy and sometimes needs more than just good ol conversation but a flat out prostrate form of humbleness, total submission prayer. I too need to do it more often.
Blessings sisters,

Hi Child of God,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your thoughts on the fact that we (I included) can be too casual and flippant about God. I hear others talk about Him sometimes, and it makes me cringe, but I don't know what to say. I don't want to tell them that they are wrong, because, like you point out, in a way they aren't....but....it's easy to lose that sense of awe and reverence when we reduce Him to "just like one of us" which He really isn't...even though He became "like" us in every way....because He humbled Himself.
It is a complicated area, and today many people elevate themselves and reduce God to make themselves feel better. We are not supposed to elevate ourselves, and surely we are not to reduce God. He elevates us when we are humbled, as He was humbled, for us.
Oh what a mighty God we serve who didn't think it was too terrible to humble Himself. He who knew no sin was made to be sin for us, to die in our place, so that He could honor us to be with Him. Wow!
Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteIt can be difficult to point out to a fellow Christian when we think they are wrong, or not honouring God in the way we think He should be honoured. It is a touch situation and I always bring this up to God and He either gives me peace about it or He gives me or someone I know the right words and situation to say something about it. In my older age, I don't want to become too rigid and strict but again I don't want to be too soft either. There is a happy medium and I trust God will show me it at the right time.
Blessings and thank you for your input.

Thank you for your wonderful comment on my post. You are such an encouragement to me. WOW - I am so grateful the Lord put you in my path. You have a beautiful ministry with blogspot - and I hope those postings get up to the thousands.....!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Alice,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I am an encouragement to you. I am the baby of my family and I have had tons of encouragement from lots of people, it is my time to return the bounty to others. :)
Hugs and blessings,

What a wonderful topic to post on! Do you ever get the feeling that God is just sighing and shaking his head when we start praying with repetition through habit and not really pouring out our hearts to Him? I do this sometimes and can imagine Him just quietly urging me to let it out and TALK to Him. I never had a relationship with my earthly father, so I struggle in this area.
ReplyDelete~God Bless You~
Hi Never Forsaken,
ReplyDeleteSometimes I do get this feeling, especially when it is family prayer time and my kids are not really being very respectful to God. My son tends to pray without thinking and I struggle with should I stop him and correct him or just let him finishes and then correct him.
It must be hard for people who never had a good relationship with their earthly father to relate to God as Father and confident. One thing that might help is knowing that He already knows what is on our mind already and just sit in His presence and soak Him up. I do this as often as I can, it helps me.
Blessings,

This is such a deep subject and I struggle with how to comfortably approach the Lord. Friend (John 15:15, Brother (John 1:12); it's hard to grasp in light of Jesus's atoning sacrifice for my Sins and my salvation. You write: we must also remember God is Holy and needs, at times, to be treated as such. I, personally, cannot find the time to not treat the Savior of the World as Holy, because holy is the Lord, God Almighty. the joy of my salvation, undeserved, unearned, completely by His grace, will not allow me to stop praising Him and His unending love, always and forever. Glory to Jesus! Blessings
ReplyDeleteHi Brian,
ReplyDeleteIt is a very deep subject and I really struggle with approaching God as husband. Friend, brother and Father I have no problem with but husband brings up lots of unanswered questions. My friend Barbie http://myfreshlybrewedlife.com did an amazing study on Song of Solomon, it was beautiful and it brought a lot of meaning to 'husband' but there are so many more questions I have that only He can answer.
God is Holy all the time and I stand corrected when I said, "we must also remember God id Holy and needs, at times, to be treated as such." We need to treat Him Holy all the time but we also need to relate to Him as a brother, a friend who understands us and is completely approachable.
Thanks for your thought provoking comment.
Blessings,
