Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. So today I will enter into a 40 day fast, to walk in the footsteps that Jesus took, yes I am sure I will mess up but I will keep my eyes on Him and keep on keeping on.
Ephesians 3:20 NIV
As a prisoner for the Lord, then , I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called--one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says:
"When He ascended on high,
He led captives in His train
and gave gifts to men."
(What does "He ascended" mean except that He also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Does anyone fast for Lent? If so I would love to hear your reasons for doing so.
Please remember Summer in your prayers she has finished the prednisone pulsing and is waiting for the swelling in her joints to disappear! Praying for 100% remission, thank you!

I have been fascinated with Lent this year. I do want to do a fast, but I still have not decided what kind to do, how long, and when. It will be a modified version of Lent, though, I'm sure! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kimberly,
ReplyDeleteCool! I have never considered a Lent fast before but since Christmas I have been thinking about it. I have usually just fasted on Good Friday but this year God placed this on my heart to do the full 40 days.
I am juice fasting one week then will give up a food group the following week then back to juice fasting for one week and so on till Easter Saturday.
I will pray that God will lead you into the type of fast He wants you to do.
Blessings,
<><
I have fasted just about every year (I'm Episcopalian) but I'm not this year. I feel like my fasting away from coffee for 9 months because of little dude in my tummy is way more than 40 days so I'll have a better understanding.
ReplyDelete(I also can't imagine giving up anything more loveable than coffee, except chocolate and 40 days with neither one would make the entire world want to shoot me! ha!)
Hi R&K,
ReplyDeleteFasting coffee is hard.....LOL.
I did it while pregnant with both kids and while nursing each of them 1 year. The day I stopped nursing my hubby bought me a huge cup of real coffee and I was so jittery afterwards it was funny.
This is cool that you have fasted Lent for so long...hats off to you. :)
Blessings,

Hello Joyful One, I too love lent and all that goes before Easter. I especially love the washing of the feet. My daughter's church carries this out about 4 times a year..and last time I attended and she washed mine..a beautiful act of servitude. Praise God for the Body of Christ..we are one in him. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Crystal Mary,
ReplyDeleteI have only experienced watching the washing of the feet once and it was a beautiful, powerful thing. I wish our church would do this. What a beautiful experience it must have been for you to have your daughter wash your feet. A show of great love and humbleness.
Yes, praise God for the body of Christ for we are one in Him!!
Blessings,
<><
I have not undergone this fast, but this sounds like a wonderful thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAnd I will keep praying for 100% healing for Summer.
God Bless,
Lon
Hi Lon,
ReplyDeleteThanks for continuing to pray for our sister!
Bless you bro,

Enjoyed this post. I have only fasted once in my life. Appreciate you sharing though. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were members of the Lutheran church, we observed Lent with Lenten worship service, but no fasting or giving up anything was observed. We, too, are now mmbers of the Baptist church, who do not observe the season of Lent at all, but do prepare for Easter.
ReplyDeleteI used to wonder why Catholics gave up eating meat for lent, then heard this: The terms "Mardi Gras", "Mardi Gras season", and "Carnival season", refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. Carne means "flesh" and val maens "away with", so the literal meaning of Lent is "away with the sinful fleshly desires". That made sense to me.
Brian,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this information with me. I have heard of Mardi Gras before but never knew what it stood for, now I do! I love how you broke down the meaning of the words into "away with the sinful fleshy desires"
Blessings,
